CHRISTMAS 1962, 1963, 1964 (CD)
THE 1960’S
THE REYNOLDS, BRITTON and PICKERING FAMILIES

These recordings, edited and transferred from original ‘reel to reel’ tape recordings then to tape cassette and later to CD, are mainly of the REYNOLDS, BRITTON and PICKERING families, recorded at 122 TRELAWNEY RD, HAINAULT, ESSEX, IG6 2NW. This address was the home of our parents ALBERT REYNOLDS and wife (KATHLEEN) (KIT) from 1937 when the property was newly built. They were parents to IVY, born 1931, MARIE, (MARION) born 1935, GEORGE, born 1939, all before WORLD WAR II (1939-1945) then ARTHUR born 1947 and ROBERT, born 1950. PETER PICKERING and wife MARIE were parents to PHILIP and MARTIN. NORMAN (NOBBY) BRITTON and wife IVY were parents to GEORGE, TREVOR and KATHLEEN (KATE) Brothers ARTHUR and ROBERT had partners but no children.

Each Christmas, while the children were young, these families would meet to talk, eat, drink and sing until around 3 a.m. or later. (The BRITTONS from BARKINGSIDE, the PICKERINGS from COLLIER ROW). The adults were in the front or ‘best’ room, with a coal fire, the children in the back living room with no fire or heating elsewhere in the house. ARTHUR would set up the hidden Reel to Reel tape recorder and leave it running all evening, changing tapes when necessary and editing down years later to tape cassette and eventually to Compact Disc CD in 2013.

This was a very musical gathering and ALBERT, MARIE, PETE, and NOBBY all played more than one instrument, cousin TOM almost one. Other relatives on these recordings are; ALICE REYNOLDS (NAN) (ALBERT’s Mother), TOM REYNOLDS (cousin) and GEORGE’s fiance PAT. (MARRIED 1964 then children SARAH, ALISON and ROBERT.)
